Remington College Continues National Effort to Increase the Number of Minority Blood Donors through “3 Lives” Program – Dallas, Fort Worth

Remington College Campuses in Dallas and

Fort Worth to Hold June Blood Drives

Dallas, Texas – (June 8, 2010) – Remington College-Dallas Campus and Remington College-Fort Worth Campus are continuing their series of local blood drives to recruit more minority blood donors to benefit Dallas-Fort Worth residents in need of blood.

The next blood drive on the Dallas Campus will be held on Monday, June 14 from 12:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.

The next blood drive on the Fort Worth Campus will be held on Thursday, June 17 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Remington College has partnered with America’s Blood Centers and the Sickle Cell Disease Association of America for a series of blood drives on all its campuses. The effort is called 3 Lives – because three lives may be saved for every one pint of blood donated. During blood drives in April, Remington College campuses collected a total of 684 pints of blood.

The blood drives focus on the need for minority donors – especially African Americans.

According to America’s Blood Centers, the need for African American blood donors is very high. African American donors provide blood with unique antigens, which can mean life-saving treatments for people battling leukemia and other diseases. The best blood match for a chronically ill patient requiring multiple blood transfusions will likely come from a donor of the same ethnic background.

African American donors also benefit people battling sickle cell disease. According to the Sickle Cell Disease Association of America, African American donors provide blood with unique antigens that is vital for people with sickle cell disease.

While the focus is on recruiting minority donors, everyone is encouraged to attend the drive and donate blood. All the blood collected will be used to help people in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

While walk-ins at the blood drive are welcome, donors are encouraged to schedule an appointment in advance by calling Remington College. Dallas donors should call Karen Jackson at 972-686-7878, and Fort Worth donors should call Jennifer Britton at 817-451-0017.

Remington College-Dallas Campus is located at 1800 Eastgate Drive in Garland.

Remington College-Fort Worth Campus is located at 300 East Loop 820 in Fort Worth.
