Remington College-Nashville Campus Holds “Love Letters” Breast Cancer Awareness Event on Oct. 10

“Love Letters” effort designed to raise awareness and encourage women in their fight against breast cancer

Nashville, Tenn. – (October 8, 2012) - Remington College-Nashville Campus will hold a campus event to show support for cancer patients during National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

On Wednesday, October 10 at 10 am, Remington College-Nashville Campus students and staff will hold an event called “Love Letters,” a campaign to raise awareness and encourage women in their fight against breast cancer. Students, staff and others have written notes and letters of encouragement for breast cancer patients to read as they undergo treatment.

The campaign was started by Robin E. Wilson, chair of the Remington College-Nashville Campus Cosmetology Department, herself a breast cancer survivor.

“What I was forced to remember during my treatment for breast cancer was that although the word “cancer” is a powerful word, there are other words that are more powerful,” said Wilson. “Words like “hope.” Words like “fight.” Words like “love.” It was the cards and encouraging words from friends and even strangers that gave me the extra push I needed to keep going some days. So the idea for Love Letters was born.”

Wilson says an encouraging note, quote, picture or card can go a long way in helping cancer patients during their fight.

At the October 10 event, all the cards will be collected and sent to the Hope Connection at Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center and the Vanderbilt Breast Center. There, they will be given to women who have been diagnosed with breast cancer.

The public is encouraged to join in the Love Letters campaign and attend the event or drop letters off at the campus
