Remington College Continues National Effort to Increase the Number of Minority Blood Donors through “3 Lives” Program – Cleveland, Cleveland West

Remington College Campuses in Cleveland to Host June 15 Blood Drives

Cleveland, Ohio – (June 8, 2010) – Remington College-Cleveland Campus and Remington College-Cleveland West Campus are continuing their series of local blood drives to recruit more minority blood donors to benefit Cleveland residents in need of blood.

The next blood drive on the Cleveland Campus will be held on Tuesday, June 15, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

The next blood drive on the Cleveland West Campus will be held on Tuesday, June 15, from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Remington College has partnered with America’s Blood Centers and the Sickle Cell Disease Association of America for a series of blood drives on all its campuses. The effort is called 3 Lives – because three lives may be saved for every one pint of blood donated. During blood drives in April, Remington College campuses collected a total of 684 pints of blood.

The blood drives focus on the need for minority donors – especially African Americans.

According to America’s Blood Centers, the need for African American blood donors is very high. African American donors provide blood with unique antigens, which can mean life-saving treatments for people battling leukemia and other diseases. The best blood match for a chronically ill patient requiring multiple blood transfusions will likely come from a donor of the same ethnic background.

African American donors also benefit people battling sickle cell disease. According to the Sickle Cell Disease Association of America, African American donors provide blood with unique antigens that is vital for people with sickle cell disease.

While the focus is on recruiting minority donors, everyone is encouraged to attend the drive and donate blood. All the blood collected will be used to help people in the Cleveland area.

While walk-ins at the blood drive are welcome, donors are encouraged to schedule an appointment in advance. People wanting to donate at the Cleveland campus can go to www.LifeShareDonor.org and enter remingtondown as the sponsor code to sign up. People wanting to donate at the Cleveland West campus can make an appointment by calling Helen T. Hebert at 440-777-2560.

Remington College-Cleveland Campus is located at 14445 Broadway Ave. in Cleveland.

Remington College-Cleveland West Campus is located at 26350 Brookpark Rd. in North Olmsted.
